What to do when we find harm (HRDD step 2): Responses and remedy
In the upcoming event we are going to:
- discuss how to address human rights harms
- hear examples of remedy cases
Once a company has identified human rights harm, it is expected to address it. Addressing it can be preventing future harm, mitigating ongoing harm, or compensating for past harm.
In this session we will explore what appropriate responses to identified human rights harm looks like. What are the immediate and longer terms action that a company that has discovered child or forced labor in its manufacturing supply chain, needs to take? A company detects that its supplier is not paying living wages, what should they do? A company operates in a country where unions are restricted, what can it do?
A particular question arises when harm has taken place, and a company is closely linked to it. The responsibility might then mean responsibility to remedy.
We will hear examples from civil society organizations and company representatives who have been engaging in an effective remedy cases.
